MEET THE TEAM

Jules

Howdy, partner! I’m Julianna but everyone calls me Jules. I am totally MAD for Mid Century. But we’ll get to that in a minute. Let me tell you first about how I learned to sew.

I was probably about 8 years old when my aunt taught me to sew. I can still remember the light blue and white polar bear printed fleece fabric we made into pajamas. She owned an incredible costume shop with thousands upon thousands of costumes she created for theater productions across the country. How cool is that? She has since retired and is busy as ever and still sewing of course. After that I dabbled here and there for fun but didn’t think much about sewing until college. The second year into my collegiate volleyball career, I went down with a season-ending knee injury. At that point in my life, volleyball was my everything and losing it, even for a short time, was a huge life event. It really only ended up to be a 6-8 month period of time before I was back on the court but to a 19/20 year old, it felt like forever. So during that time, I turned to art and got back into sewing a little bit and brushed up on my skills. It wasn’t until several years later that it would change my life.

After my first was born, I started sewing again. Things like baby blankets, hot pads, clothing, etc. At this point I was just enjoying myself and mostly hoarding fabric, refining my skills, and finding my direction.

Now let’s revisit the mid-century craze. Coincidentally, my first sewing machine table is what defined my personal style which is retro, mid-century, colorful, and a little bit weird all combined together. The table came from a local auction and had a ridiculously heavy machine attached to it. It has cool lines and hardware and has been very well-loved. Anyway, I had been searching high and low for a really cool patio umbrella and patio set if I could find one. Half the fun is the hunt, right? So I searched for new ones, vintage ones, new old stock, anything I could come up with and I came up short. And that brings us to now. I thought to myself, okay I know how to sew, I can do this, I’ll just make my own! So I did and I loved it. And that’s how Hazy Sunshine was born. I knew it was “the one”. I had been searching for my place in the sewing world and I finally found it. That was a good feeling.

Alexandra

Meet Alex, a Fort Lauderdale, FL native, who embodies the essence of Hazy Sunshine with her love for the laid-back, ready to have a great time, South Florida lifestyle.

Her inspirations are drawn from her love of all things vintage, design, beach days, and adventurous fishing trips in the deep blue sea. A proud graduate of the University of Alabama, Alex not only treasures the memorable friendships she forged during her time there but also leverages her innate business acumen to curate and promote the Hazy Sunshine brand.

It was her role at Montce Swim post-college that ignited her passion for e-commerce platforms, marking a pivotal point where she discovered her knack for business growth and brand development. Her decade-long expertise in marketing has been fundamental in her corporate successes, but it is her exceptional ability to connect with individuals from varied backgrounds that truly sets her apart. Some may even call her a "Professional Networker."

Described as a tough negotiator with a decisive nature, Alex's favorite nail color, Ferrari Red, mirrors her bold and spirited personality.

You know that feeling when something feels right? Down to your bones? That is how we feel about the addition of Alex to the Hazy Sunshine team. She’s vibrant and highly accomplished with a proven track record spanning 7+ years in the industry. She has taken on the role of Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Chief Networking Officer (CNO (is that a thing?)) and brings a unique blend of creativity and data-driven strategy to the team. Her skill set is truly one- of-a-kind.

Outside of work, you’ll probably find Alex with her dog, and if she’s not with her dog she’s definitely on her way to get her dog. Her love of learning has given her a penchant for travel and when she’s back in Florida, she’s guaranteed to be on a boat deepsea sport fishing.

If you see her on the street, she's probably wearing a pickle shirt and ready to say "Hi!"; no one is a stranger.

Everyone has a story. What’s yours?
